Spiritual Counseling that respects your worldview

Early psychological theory considered belief in God as an indication that an individual was mentally ill. While the current culture is more respectful of individual religious views, some therapy falls far short of respecting your spiritual belief system. Patrick has 65 credit hours in theological training at the bachelor’s level and has been successful in working with Christian, Catholic and Jewish clients. He is respectful of your religious values and world view. With 11 years of experience as a psychotherapist, he will help you to integrate your spiritual beliefs with healthy changes that will complement your faith. He specializes in working within your value system to help you meet your goals. Recent research has established that spiritual faith is highly correlated with psychological health, resilience and hope. The clinic name, Kinesis, is derived from a Greek word (kinhsis) found in Acts 17:27-28. These verses state that “God expressed His love for us so that we would seek after Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us. For in God we live and move and have our being, for we are God’s offspring.” Kinesis indicates movement or activity in response to a stimulus. This movement may lack directional orientation and depend upon the intensity of the stimulation. Patrick will help you find direction. Kinesis also indicates a change in motion. That is why he uses the hummingbird logo. The hummingbird can change motion, while it is receiving sustenance. You can continue to live your current life while you make the necessary directional changes that will bring the success you seek. You can move away from situations that are unhealthy. Kinesis also refers to the exciting of emotions or the stirring up of feelings and passions. We are emotional beings. These emotions help us to connect with others. However, we do not have to be overwhelmed by our emotions. The Bible also teaches that “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, of love and of a sound mind’ (2 Timothy 1:7). While not all healing is limited to spiritual faith, there is power in your spiritual faith. The Torah teaches in Exodus 34:7 that “God remembers deeds of love for thousands of generations, forgiving sin, rebellion and error.” It is this understanding of God’s forgiveness that helps the healthy individual accept self in spite of mistakes made in the past. God can move beyond our errors and so can we.
